A LOVELY PIECE OF JUNK January 6, 2009 sattva I must regretfully agree with the other 1-star reviewers of this clock. It's sleek and lovely and wonderful when it works---or rather UNTIL it stops working. I've had two clocks in 3 years; I won't be buying another even at half price, particularly after reading the review of the buyer who also used to retail these. I agree too that this company can be dismissive and unpleasant to deal with--- ironic, given the nature of their signiature product. Customer satisfaction is clearly not a priority for Now & Zen. As much as I would like to, I can't recommend this. Don't waste your money.
How to fix December 28, 2008 Blue Flame 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree and thank the reviewer who pointed out that it is the wiring to the lid that breaks. If you want the clock to last do not flex the lid! If you are good with fine wire stripping and soldering then fix it. I like the beautiful sound and concept despite the serious design flaw. Needs a Zif flex cable to lid like notebook computers. Do the new models have this? 4 star rating if they do. I will distinguish between the lid circuit board (LCb) and the base circuit board (BCb) Bcb J1-1 to LCb J-21; BCb V+ to LCb J-25 black wire painted red in lid. BCb J1-3 to LCb J-23 black wire painted white in lid. BCb Square above letters "CHARG" to LcB j-22 Black Wire in lid painted White. BCb J1-4 to LCb J-24 black wire painted red in lid. Square to the left of ADP-ON letters to LCb J-26 black wire in lid - no paint. It is possible that this could be in error as wires twist under the striker etc. My clock works fine now as I spliced six sections over the worn out lid sections. Time consuming but OK if you like to do this fine work. I will not be flexing the lid!!
Nice looking and compact on the night table December 18, 2008 London Stone (Houston, TX) Was trying to buy a gentle, soothing alarm clock for some time and was unable to locate one -- found this one and love it. Nice looking and compact on the night table -- previously had a dawn simulation alarm clock for 20 years so am hoping to get the same out of this product. Would definitely recommend to any buyer.
A highly recommended addition to your nightstand... December 18, 2008 Amari Fisher (Kansas City, MO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great little alarm clock/meditation timer. The chime progression sequence is a really nice way to get up. There is a high and low setting for the chime volume. The display is large and easy to read. Setting the alarm and time is fairly intuitive and the buttons are easy to use. One nice feature is that the unit allows you to use the clock as a countdown and interval timer utilizing the chime. The design is aesthetically pleasing -- when the wooden lid is closed it looks like a simple wooden box. There is a jack on the back for AC power, as well as a battery only option. Overall, a highly recommended addition to your nightstand, but be prepared to give up some valuable real estate to accomodate this unit.
Clock's sound is not a jarring experience... December 18, 2008 Drew Grant (Washington) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my third purchase of a Now & Zen clock. My first one lasted years. I also purchased one as a gift. I have to get up early each day, and it is important to me to wake up in a pleasant way. The assault on the ears provided by other alarm clocks does the job of waking me, but it's a jarring experience. I'm grateful these Zen Alarm Clocks exists!
